Moean Mohammed H.G.M., is widely regarded as one of
the greatest living legends in the Indian cultural field
of Trinidad and Tobago. His climb to local and international
fame, began on Radio Trinidad in the late 1950s.
Has played a pioneering role in the introduction of
local Indian programmes on ttt, initiating in 1962 the
popular Indian Variety.
Internationally, Moean has appeared on radio and television
in many countries of the world, including the U.S.A.,
Canada, and B.B.C. of London, England; All India Radio,
India; Jamica, and Surinam. Has also presented several
live cultural shows in the Americas, Europe, India and
the Caribbean, including Guyana, Grenada, Jamaica and
Surinam. In 1977 he delivered the feature address at
the gold disco presentation of Kabhie Kabhie in Bombay.
A world-wide traveller Moean has met most of the prominent
stars of the Indian screen: Amitab Bachan, Shashi Kapoor,
Rishi, Dev Anand, Asha Parekh, Rakhee, Waheeda, to name
just a few. Moean has also played a pivotal role in
the presentation of many of the greatest artistes of
India; Hemant Kumar, Manna Day, late Mohammed Rafi,
late Mukesh, Talat, Enoch, Van Shipley, Babla, Geeta
Dutt, and Jagit Singh, among others. No other radio
and cultural worker has made a more magnificent contribution
to the development and preservation of local Indian
song and music as Moean has done.
No wonder government awarded him the Hummingbird Gold
Medal in 1973 for his contribution to the development
of Culture. Moean remains a living legend as broadcaster
and cultural worker.
